Sausage Mr Potato Head

I did not update the blog yesterday because I went to bed instead, lol. I've been feeling rather tired lately as I've been sleeping late every day. I practically have to drag myself out of bed every morning, and I always tell myself I should sleep earlier that night. But when night comes, I end up sleeping late again. I finally turned in early yesterday and sleep at the same time as my boys.

I made this simple salmon fried rice for my boys' lunch last Wednesday. The prawn paste chicken wings were kept from dinner the night before, my boys love eating them . And so do I. I reheated the wings in the oven for them.

I made Mr Potato Head using sausages to decorate their lunch. The details were done using cheese, ham, carrot, nori, edamame and strawberry. Mr Potato Head is a character in the movie Toy Story. I've made a rice version of him before, click HERE to see.

I'm sharing the recipe for our favourite prawn paste wings below. Hope you like it too. :)

PRAWN PASTE CHICKEN RECIPE

Ingredients:
500g chicken wings
2 tbsp Lee Kum Kee fine shrimp sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp ginger juice (grate ginger and squeeze the pulp to get the juice)
1 tsp rice wine
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 cup corn flour

Method:
  1. Marinade chicken wings with all ingredients except cornflour for at least an hour. You can leave it to marinade overnight as well.
  2. Just before deep frying, pour in corn flour. Stir in to coat evenly till it is dissolved in the marinade and forms a sticky coat on the chicken.
  3. Deep fry till golden brown.
Note:
  • I've not tried other brands of shrimp sauce, so I'm not sure whether they will work with this recipe

Toy Story Woody Bento

The Woody bento in this post is inspired by Toy Story Mania ride in Tokyo DisneySea. This is a newly opened ride and my boys rate this the best ride in all the theme parks they have been too, lol. It was indeed pretty fun, as we compete against one another in the game to see who ends up with the highest score.

Woody bento inspired by the ride at DisneySea. Not too happy with how it turned out though, I should not have used multi-grained rice here, not much contrast between Woody and the background. -_- Woody is made from ham and bread, no nori used this time. There's grilled wings, broccoli and strawberries at the side.

IMG_4616
Picks are from DisneySea, I guess they are quite meaningless unless you have gone on the ride. The boys were all excited over the picks and Woody, as they talked about the ride while eating their bentos.

IMG_4621
I packed the same grilled wings for myself, with sweet peas, salmon and radish.

This is the inspiration for today's bentos. The queue at the ride is crazy, and fast pass was all gone in the morning when we reached. And yes, we did join the crazy queue. -_-  Daddy also went back on the last day before the park opened just to grab the fast pass, so we can go on it again.

Lunch at DisneySea, found a restaurant selling Chinese food, not exactly authentic but was yummy.

disneysea2
Love this Japanese restaurant in DisneySea, it serves nice Japanese food just like the one at Disneyland and we will always visit it. I had Chirashi, my boys shared the pork cutlet and salmon set, while Daddy took the chicken set.

And they have these super cute and yummy aliens mochi ice cream! Too kawaii! Awwwww, I miss Japan, and DisneySea always has a special place in my heart, because it was just opened during my very first trip to Japan. :)

Mr Potato Head Bento

We had a good staycation, the best part was the magic show. Our favourite was Dan Sperry, he's really entertaining. We were busy googling for youtube videos on him after the show. lol. :)

Back to the bentos today, I made another character from Toy Story. If you have watched the movie, you will definitely know Mr Potato Head. The boys had fun rearranging his features before eating 'him'. :P

Bento for LT, same food as above.

IMG_1813
IT's recess bento, in the box are nutella bread, chicken skewer and grapes. Haha, I know Mr Potato Head is missing his hand in their bentos for School, I left it out just coz I was lazy. :P

IMG_1814
LT's recess bento, same food as above, except he had strawberry jam bread. In order to close the box, I shifted the skewers the opposite way. This nicer presentation is for photography purpose, hahaha. :P

IMG_1807
lol, I think he looks really hilarious. :D

Jenn from Bento for Kidlet shared where she took her bento photos. I found that interesting, so I thought I'll share mine too. I usually take mine by the window ledge, and here's how messy the set up looks. :P By the way, if you know how to take nice photos of bentos indoor at night, please share with me. I do have an external flash, but I do not like how my photos turn out with it. :(

And this is my 200th post. Hooray! My giveaway post will be up right after this. :)

Toy Story Aliens Bento

It's Valentine's today, but my bento is not related to Valentines at all. I made aliens from the movie Toy Story. It's one of our favourite Disney movie, and the boys' favourite ride at Disneyland is Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. :) I want to make Buzz Lightyear and Woody too, but that will have to wait, I shall start with the easier ones first. So, I chose these aliens since they are the easiest! lol. :)

Bento for IT, in the box are onigiri, tonkatsu, japanese curry, broccoli and grapes. I tried coloring the rice with some pandan paste, but hated the green color, I should have just used the deco furi instead. :(

Bento for LT, same food as above.
