Jurassic World Carrot Soup

Jurassic World was one of the movie we caught during the school holidays. I love the trailer and read that Jurassic World was even better than the original Jurassic Park. That got my expectations up high, since in my opinion, the first instalment of Jurassic Park was a classic. After watching the movie, I was just a little bit disappointed, it's entertaining no doubt, and we all enjoyed the movie, but the sudden ending left me hanging in midair.

IMG_3737
The very next day after we watched the movie, I made this bowl of Jurassic World soup. To make this, I filled a bowl with carrot soup. Then, I cut T-Rex and the Jurassic World banner from a slice of wrap.

IMG_3718
I vary the toasting time of the wrap for the different sections so that there will be some difference in the colour tone. The black portion of the words were cut out from nori.

Do catch the movie if you have yet to, it's still good and definitely worth watching.

Cafe Cat and Paw

Have you seen this cute 3D latte art of a floating kitty from Cafe Cat and Paw online?

IMG_0967
If you have no idea what I'm referring to, here's what the marshmallow kitty looks like. I don't drink coffee, so he's floating in a cup of green tea latte. So, so adorable!

IMG_0965
Each box comes with 2 kitties and 4 cat paws. Even the packaging is so cute.

IMG_0966
Japanese always comes up with the cutest stuff!

IMG_1089
The marshmallow will slowly melt into your drink. Want to get a pack? Click HERE for the website to purchase them.

IMG_1014
Here's my version of the kitty latte art.

IMG_1025
This is a savoury version, my kitty is made using mashed potato, and he's floating in a bowl of asparagus soup.

IMG_1022
I've not forgotten that I owe some of you a tutorial on how to create characters using mashed potato. I will take step-by-step pictures the next time I'm making mashed potato characters and get it updated.

IMG_2049
I also made another version using shiratama and green tea pudding.

IMG_2048
This did not turned out too well, the brown details on the kitty shiratama were a perfect shade when they were just cooked. But as the pudding was still setting in the fridge, I left them in a bowl of ice water in the fridge and went to take a nap. When I woke up and wanted to assemble them, I realised the brown details had smudged a little and turned more reddish. Hiaz. :(

Rilakkuma Bread Roll & Puff Pastry Soup

IT has recovered and he went to school yesterday. He still needs more rest though, he was so tired, he went straight for a nap once he was home yesterday. He still does not have much of an appetite as well. Thank goodness we will have the rest of the week off after today, it's a short school week. :)

IMG_9975
An easy Rilakkuma sandwich roll bento box. This is the second time I'm making Rilakkuma sandwich roll, I made a slightly different version way back in 2011. You can click HERE if you would like to take a look.

IMG_9972
The sandwich rolls were filled with tuna mayo, also packed some fruits in the box.

IMG_9969
The way to make the sandwich rolls is similar to the Hello Kitty sandwich rolls tutorial HERE, which I shared previously. This time, I flattened the bread before rolling.

IMG_1909
This puff pastry Rilakkuma idea was from a bento book.

IMG_1906
Made this for my lunch, there's seafood soup underneath the puff pastry. I love having puff pastry with my soup, quite the perfect match. :)

Cuddle Palz Hamster & Tiger

Have you joined my CuteZCute Cuddle Palz giveaway on Instagram? It's closing after today, if you would like to take part, you can still click HERE to join now. The Cuddle Palz cutter is so easy to use, I made quite a few creations using it. I'll share two in this post and I'll leave the rest for future posts, don't wanna squeeze too many photos in one post.

IMG_1367
The next animal I tried out using Cuddle Palz was the hamster. She has heart shaped ears, how adorable.

IMG_1356
Did not take much effort to make this bento box, I merely added on a bow for the cutie hamster, and cut out 2 ovals from ham using the eyes of the tiger cutter.

IMG_1375
This snack box was filled with grapes, strawberries, lettuce and chicken tsukune.

IMG_1281
This was a last minute idea, I had cooked tomato soup that day, so I thought I should just add in a quick decor using the Cuddle Palz.

IMG_1287
I chose the tiger cutter, used it to cut out the wrap and toasted it in the oven for a while before placing on the soup. I hope you like these two kawaii animals from Cuddle Palz, have a good weekend! :)

Frozen Olaf Soup & Pancake

This has been a crazy week for me, I'm so glad it's the weekends. I've a new tool to share next week and there will be a giveaway as well, will update details next week. You can also follow me on Instagram (@bentomonsters), as I'll likely update there a little earlier.

IMG_1239
Other than IT's competition that has been keeping us busy this week, we've been dog sitting, lol. This is the adorable schnauzer that I looked after for the past few days. She belongs to my sis. My parents and sis were out of town at the same time, so she stayed over at our place.

I'll be sharing more Olaf food creations in this post, the very cute snowman from the Disney movie, Frozen. My boys simply adore Olaf, they asked for more Olaf food art, since he's rather easy to make, I have no reason to say no to them.

IMG_0006
Olaf swimming in a bowl of carrot soup. He's finally enjoying himself, swimming in summer, lol.

IMG_9999
Olaf is made from a toasted wrap, more details on the rest of the ingredients later. I often get questions on how I did my soup art, so I decided to take some step-by-step photos for this time, hope they are useful. :)

IMG_0028
This Olaf pancake was for my boys' breakfast during the school holidays last June. I used whipped cream and melted chocolate to draw the details, added on an orange slice for his nose.

IMG_0027
This pancake idea is actually inspired by the Olaf pancake made by Kitchen Fun With My 3 sons. Click HERE to check out her very cute pancake.

IMG_0750
I made Olaf using a piece of wrap.

IMG_0753
Cut out Olaf head, body and feet from the wrap. I simply used a pair of scissors to trim out the shapes. However, you can also print/draw out Olaf on a piece of paper, place that on your wrap and use it as a guide to cut out the parts. Place these on a baking trap, toast in the oven at 180 degrees celcius for around 5 minutes till crisp. Don't throw away the leftover cut outs, you can cut them into small pieces, toast them in the same way and use as soup or salad toppings.

IMG_0754
Cut out 2 circles from wrap for Olaf eye. I used the puncher above to punch out his eyes from nori. His eyebrows were cut out with a pair of scissors. Use some mayo to "stick" the parts together.

IMG_0755
Cut out mouth from nori and teeth from wrap, and again, "stick" them on with some mayo.

IMG_0759
Cut out Olaf's nose from carrot.

IMG_0761
Punch out nori for the buttons using the above puncher.

IMG_0764
Cut out Olaf's hand and hair from a piece of boiled kombu.

IMG_0767
Alternatively, you can also try using herbs like dill for Olaf's hand instead.

IMG_9998
Assemble the parts on your soup, and there, you have your very own bowl of Olaf soup. If you need a recipe for carrot soup, click HERE to check out one that I shared previously.
