My Favourite 13 of 2013

Happy New Year! May your 2014 be filled with health and happiness. I will be sharing my favourite 13 creations for 2013 in this post.

I found it really tough narrowing down my bentos to my favourite 13, I have way too many favourites, lol. I ended up choosing one from each month instead. I tried to choose those creations that I like but are less popular, hope you enjoy looking through them. Just click on the images below to link to the respective blog post.

Pumpkin, Ghost & Skull Sushi

I'm sharing Halloween deco sushi for today, ideas are all from a deco sushi book.

IMG_9443\
Pumpkin and ghost sushi, which my boys had for lunch. They love sushi because they like dipping their rice in soya sauce. -_- They are huge fans of salmon sashimi as well, for the same reason, lol.

IMG_9439
I coloured my pumpkin sushi with steamed mashed pumpkin. The other ingredients used for the pumpkin sushi were japanese cucumber and kamaboko.

IMG_9449
There were no instructions in the book on how to roll these ghost sushi, but since only the ghost hands needed to be rolled with the sushi, I did managed to figure it out.

IMG_9462
These skull sushi were done on another day. The pink rice was coloured with sakura denbu and the grey rice was coloured with grinded black sesame seeds.

I made some Halloween sushi last year too, click HERE to check them out.

Ghost and Pumpkin Quail Eggs

IT last exam paper is tomorrow, and school holidays will be in another two weeks plus. Yay, so glad exams are over, I've been tearing my hair out the past weeks, he is just so nonchalant over the revisions, only bucking up a little this week. I can't wait for the holidays. :) I'll be slowing down a little with my bento making and blogging after next week, it's always a little slow moving in the 'bento world' every year end.:)

IMG_9175
A very quick Halloween decor, using quail eggs. The sunny side up quail eggs were made into jack-o'-lanterns and the hard boiled ones were turned into friendly ghosts. :)

IMG_9178
The main dish is yakisoba, stir fried with broccoli and pork. Hee, I know broccoli is not the typical veggie used for yakisoba, I was just trying to use whatever veggie I had in the fridge.

IMG_9181
I also packed in fried fish fillets, which I kept from dinner the night before. Toasted it in the oven before packing in the bento. :)

Hello Kitty Pumpkin Bento

For today's post, I'm sharing a Hello Kitty in a pumpkin costume, which I made for my boys' lunch last week. The inspiration for this came from Daisy Selalu's Halloween bento last year, she has a similar creation made using cheese and egg sheets.

IMG_9006
My Hello Kitty is made using rice instead. Orange rice is coloured with mashed steamed pumpkin. I used egg sheet for the green portions, and the red bow is made using crabstick.

IMG_9010
I cooked mini hamburg and grilled salmon to go with the rice. I also packed in lettuce, kiwis, grapes and strawberries. :)

It's Friday again, exams are coming though, so we will be stuck at home doing revisions most of the time. -_-

Autumn Bear Bento

I'm sharing two more autumn creations today. :) Love autumn colours! :)

IMG_8933
Two bears out to enjoy autumn. One bear is lying on the ground, enjoying the sights, the other bear is taking a dip in curry onsen. :) I wished I'm doing that right now, lol. :)

IMG_8929
Bears are made from rice, the brown portion is coloured with a bit of dark soya sauce. The bento is packed with veggie curry, tonkatsu, lettuce, grapes and mandarin oranges.

IMG_8957
Another autumn bear I made for my boys' snacks. This bear is pulling back his pumpkin in a wagon.

IMG_8959
Pumpkin is a mandarin orange, leaves are cut out from carrot bread, strawberries and kiwis. Wagon is a nutella sandwich. The bear is a peanut butter sandwich with blueberries eyes and nose, and he is wearing a strawberry scarf. :)
