Quail Egg Pig & Cow Pasta

School was closed due to the haze on friday, had a good long weekend, caught up a little on my sleep, yay. My boys are hoping the haze will be back again today so that they don't have to go to school tomorrow. After checking the pollutant index a couple of times since this afternoon, they are finally convinced it's not going to happen, lol.

IMG_5383
Now that they are off to bed, thought I'll finish off this post in my draft folder before I sleep. Quail eggs are a quick way to decorate your food, you can make them into various animals and even some cartoon characters. One of my favourite thing to make out of quail eggs are piggies.

IMG_5384
One quail egg makes one piggy, I cut the quail egg in half, that way I won't end up with too many quail eggs in the bowl. The pink portion is Japanese fish sausage, you can substitute with ham if you can't find it. The blanky one of the piggy is holding is a blanch red cabbage.

IMG_5381
The piggies are lying on Mentaiko pasta, one of our favourite Japanese fusion pasta. I've shared the recipe here on my blog before. I've also added some Ikura, which my boys like as well.

IMG_2000
Another version of quail egg piggy, this time I soaked the egg in beetroot water to get the nice pink colour. I also made a quail egg cow. The extra cutouts for their nose and ears were actually sliced out from the back of the quail egg, which means that the back part is actually not presentable, lol.

IMG_2005
This time, the animals were lying on pasta bolognese, added in asparagus, carrots and lettuce to make it a more complete meal.

IMG_2015
Served the meal with some infused water which IT likes, but LT hates. LT says he prefers plain water, no lemons in his please.

Hotel Transylvania 2 Food Art

It's that time of the year for making Halloween bentos again. I've made many Halloween bentos during the past few years, you can check out all my past creations over here. I probably won't be making that many this year, as I'm don't blog that often like I used to these days, and I am afraid I won't be able to update in time if I make too many.

My first Halloween creation for this year is about the upcoming movie Hotel Transylvania 2. I'm joining a Hotel Transylvania 2 blog hop with my fellow bento friends, so please remember to click on the graphic at the end of the post for more Hotel Transylavania 2 inspired lunches.
IMG_6777
I love the new character in Transylvnia 2, Dennis, the son of Johnny and Mavis. Dennis looks so cute in the trailer, so of course I chose to craft him. I made his grandpa, Dracula too, because I like the posters showing both of them together.

IMG_6800
This is actually lunch for two, LT ate the Dracula rice with with his soup, and IT gets to eat his soup with Dennis pasta(There's another bowl of soup not in the picture.). IT likes to eat pasta and LT likes to eat rice. They don't usually get to choose at home, so both would just eat whatever I serve on the table. The soup is chicken vegetable soup which went well with both rice and pasta.

IMG_6783
To make Dracula, I used rice(coloured with ketchup), nori, cheese, ham(coloured blue by soaking in butterfly/blue pea water) and red cabbage.

IMG_6786
To make Dennis, I used spiral pasta (cooked in tomato based sauce), ham (eye portion was coloured blue using butterfly/blue pea flower waer), cheese and nori. I think Dennis still looks like he can do with more hair, I should have added on more pasta, lol.

Now, are you ready for more spooky lunch ideas, just click on the graphic above, and hop over to Bunches O Lunches, and see what awesome lunch ideas Shannon has for you. :)

Garfield Pasta & Burger

Are you familiar with Garfield? You probably are, if you are, ahem, as "young" as me. Garfield used to be very popular then, I remembered seeing him often in comic strips and television. My boys have not seen him in either of these, they have only seen Garfield the movie.  Come to think of it, there are quite a few characters popular during my time, but they seemed to have lost their appeal now. Maybe I should dig out those characters from my memory and incorporate them in my creations, lol.

IMG_1247
This is my second time making Garfield, the first Garfield bento I made was way back in 2012. I also made Odie then. This time, I only made Garfield.

IMG_1251
Garfield was made from a meat patty, covered with cheese, other ingredients used were egg, ham and nori.

IMG_1248
Served the meat patty with lettuce and tomato mushroom pasta.

IMG_6049
I used the same idea and made Garfield again out of cheese and meat patty. However, I served it as a ramen burger and changed Garfield's expression here.

IMG_6057
My first time cooking ramen burger, always wanted to try out this dish because it looks so interesting. My boys saw me cooking this and asked me why don't I just use Mamee snack to make this dish directly. -_-

IMG_6051
I guess it's not exactly healthy but it's quite yummy. Only thing is this doesn't taste good when cold, you have to eat it warm when the outer crust is still crispy.

Keroppi Food Art & Cookie

I'm sorry my site was not accessible earlier, thank you to all of you who tried to inform me about it. I was changing the template yesterday, ended up making a mess, I had no time to fix it, so I restricted access to the blog for the time being. This new look that you are seeing is just a temporary one, I'm still working with the designers on another one, as the final site is going to be two column, I thought I should slowly change the blog layout, so that the final transition will be easier.

IMG_0811
I'm finally updating a recipe post, I've quite a few to share, but as they take longer to put up, as compared to the regular post, I keep procrastinating. These Keroppi cookies are matcha german cookies. These Keroppi cookies were inspired by Wanwan Tea, I was attracted by the ones she made during my very first visit to her blog.

IMG_0810
These cookies simply melts in your mouth, they are similar to the Tsum Tsum ones I shared earlier here. These cookies are green due to the matcha powder added, and they also come with a hint of matcha flavour.

IMG_0937
Before I proceed to the cookie recipe, let me share two Keroppi food art I made. This Keroppi was made out of chopped spring onions and fish balls.

IMG_0933
The noodles below are udon made using my Philips Noodle Maker, they have a disc for making udon that you can order from their service centre.

IMG_0952
And this Keroppi was made from Zucchini-based noodles or Zoodles. I made this one for myself. I used a spiralizer to slice the Zoodles, quite fun, but this gadget is a little bulky for my tiny kitchen. -_-

IMG_0950
Keroppi eyes here was made using hard boiled egg.

Pikachu Pasta & Omurice

School started again yesterday. IT came back today and told me he will be going to watch the National Day rehearsal next week. So excited for him, it's going to be so fun. I've been balloting for tickets for the past few years but no luck so far. :( This year's parade is going to be awesome since it's our Golden Jubilee, and I'm sure the goodie bag will extra special too. Argh, I want to go too. -_-

IMG_0943
It's been a long time since I last made Pikachu. You can click here to see my previous Pikachu bentos.

IMG_0942
This time, I made Pikachu out of a meat patty, covered with cheese. I used yellow bell pepper for the ears and arms. The other details were done using nori, ham and mayonnaise.

IMG_0945
I arranged the pasta sauce on top and the pasta on the bottom to make it look like a Pokeball.

IMG_4563
And here's another Pikachu food art. I've not been making charabens lately, as it's much faster to just display the food on plates instead.

IMG_4567
This is Omurice, omelette wrapped around chicken ketchup fried rice, an easy one dish meal for lunch.

IMG_4568
I've not made any other Pokemon characters because Pikachu is actually the only Pokemon character I know. I've seen photos of a few others but I've no idea of what they are called, lol. -_-

Clown Pasta

Back at Tokyo for the remaining of our holidays, did not managed to finish this post before I left. We are waiting for our shuttle to transfer to Disney hotel and since I've some time, I'm finishing up this post while waiting. :) We have been eating non-stop this trip, I don't dare to go back and weigh myself, lol.

Graveyard Pasta & Toast

My boys only have school for today, it's holiday for the rest of this week. Not really a holiday for them, as they have exams next week, so they will be studying instead. They are still happy to be off from school. And I'm looking forward to sleeping in, I hate waking up early. :P

CutezCute Piggy and Panda

It's back to school again yesterday, the last term of the year, can't believe time flies so fast. My boys are growing up too fast!

IMG_1714
This ham piggy adds instant cuteness to your food. I used the piggy cutter from CuteZCute Animal Friends cutter and the body cutter from Cuddle Palz.

IMG_1727
I then added on eyes and mouth punched out from nori, cut out a little tail from ham, and dabbed on some ketchup.

IMG_1726
And viola, the food art is done, ultra fast to make. I used it on top of pasta here, but you can use it to decorate your rice, sandwich, salad, etc.

IMG_1734
The pasta underneath was Tom Yum seafood pasta, a current favourite with IT, he loves eating this.

IMG_1453
Here's another idea, a nutella panda sandwich. This time, I used the panda cutter from Animal Friends with the body cutter from Cuddle Palz.

IMG_1461
I used the body cutter to cut out another arm and tail and spread them with nutella for the contrast. Not very smooth as my nutella is drying up. -_-
