Paper Doll Sandwich

Have you played with paper dolls before? Paper dolls, as the name implies, are made out of paper, and comes with different clothes and accessories for you to play around. It's one of my favourite thing to play with when I was young, I remember spending part of my pocket money buying them from school bookstore then. Do they still sell them now? I have not seen them around, but I've not actually search for them.

This sandwich that I am sharing today, is inspired by the paper dolls I love to play with as a child. The gal is actually a ham, cheese and cucumber sandwich, there's a slice of bread under the ham. I made her outfits and accessories out of ham, cheese, carrot, apple and bow pasta.

I shared this with LT for snack time in the morning, IT was at school then. We dressed the gal up in a few outfits, before we ate her, lol.

The first outfit we put on her.

IMG_4433
This second one reminds me of Aladdin, lol.

IMG_4437
I like this outfit the best.

The last outfit we put on her, I think she looks a little like a fairy in this.

Singapore National Day SG50 Food Art

It's our nation's golden jubilee tomorrow. It's a big celebration this year throughout the long weekend from Friday all through to next Monday. And of course I had to come up with a food art for this very special occasion. I actually came up with two designs but I was not happy with one of the design, so I won't be posting it. Hopefully I can improvise on the other design and share it next year. :)

IMG_5588
This is Singapore, four friends eating together at the same table, regardless of their race or religion.

IMG_5591
To make the people, the rice were coloured using either dark soy sauce or ketchup. Other ingredients used were bell peppers, cheese, ham, nori, red cabbage, aburaage and egg sheet.

IMG_5587
I also crafted out miniature food, from left to right clockwise, Prata, Burger, Nasi Lemak and Dim Sum. In choosing the food for each ethnic race, Prata for Indian and Nasi Lemak for Malay were a no-brainer. But I could not decide which food would be a good representation for Chinese and Malay, finally settled on Dim Sum and Burger respectively.

IMG_5592
Can you guess what ingredient I used to create the miniature food? Everything is edible, quite fun making this.

This food art of our founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, which I made earlier this year, definitely deserve a repost on this special occasion. For this is also a day to remember our founding father. We would not have been able to celebrate the golden jubilee of Singapore, if he had not dedicate his whole life in building our nation.

Earth Day Bento

Happy Earth Day! This is the third year I'm making foodart for Earth Day. Please click HERE and HERE to check out my previous two years' creations.

IMG_4068
I actually wanted to make something different this year,  and already had something in mind, but it requires more time to complete. I was busy today and did not want to spend too much time on making charaben. I ended up doing a remake of my first Earth Day bento from two years ago. Instead of making two boys, I decided to make a girl hugging Mother Earth instead.

IMG_4072
Did you notice the bow pasta on the top left of the bento? Had wanted to add it to the girl's hair, but did not like how it turned out, so I took it out. The girl is made from rice coloured with ketchup, pasta (her hair), nori and ham. I've been recycling the same idea for making the Earth, using blue coloured rice and blanched veggie. However, I've noticed I've coloured my rice blue using different methods in all three creations. The first one was coloured using natural blue powdered colouring. The second one was coloured using butterfly pea flower and this one was coloured with deco furi.

IMG_4074
Added the finishing touch to this bento by adding some herbs from my mini garden. There's thyme on the girls' hair and some oregano around her. The flowers on her hair are from a pack of furikake. :)

Hello......Love Valentines Bento

Valentine's Day is almost here. I'll be sharing my last Valentines bento tomorrow. This post is part of a blog hop with my fellow Bento Bloggers & Friends. So after you have seen my post, please click on the image at the end to go onto the next blog to check out more Valentines lunches. :)

IMG_2601
I first saw this cute boy calling girl stick figures on a set of pillow cases. Subsequently saw them on cupcakes as well. I thought they were perfect for a Valentines themed lunch, so I tried to recreate the design on onigiri.

IMG_2599
The side dishes packed in the bentos were pork cutlets, fried prawns, broccoli and peaches.

IMG_2590
Ingredients used to make the stick figures were nori, heart sprinkler and a strand of ume soba noodle. :)

Now, please click the image above and hop over to Licious Lunches to check out Rebecca's awesome Valentine's day creations. :)

Vacation Bento

I'll be flying off for my vacation on Wednesday morning. I have scheduled some blog posts to auto publish while I'm away, so there will be updates on the blog unless there are some hiccups with the auto posts. :P

IMG_0159
I made this vacation bento last week. That is me in the bento, going on a holiday with my luggage and camera, except I do not look that cute. :P I do however own a similar coat, in mustard yellow.

IMG_0161
The sides for this bento were prawn paste wings, broccoli, lettuce, grapes and strawberries. The girl is made from rice, egg sheet and nori.

IMG_0158
My boys have been counting down to the trip everyday. I need to continue with my packing, still halfway done. -_-

Snow White Bento

It's Monday again, one of my busiest day of the week. I always have to drag myself out of bed every Monday, because I feel so tired. -_- Hope you aren't feeling the same as me. I've some Snow White creations from last week to share.

IMG_8357
Snow White and witch are made from rice coloured with a dab of ketchup. The witch's hat is made from cheese and nori. Snow White's bow is made from crabstick, and her hair is made from cheese and nori.

IMG_8356
I also packed chicken karaage, lettuce, golden kiwis and strawberries in the bento.

IMG_8434
I also made this very simple bread version, cut out using CuteZcute.

IMG_8432
This is a combi of cream cheese and Nutella spread, and her bow is made from strawberry. The apple she is holding is a tomato. :)
