Hello Kitty & Friends Donuts

PHello!! I'm finally back to dust off the cobwebs from this space, lol. Sorry for the long hiatus, I don't really know why, was just feeling lazy after exams were over, just not motivated to switch on my laptop to update my blog. -_-

IMG_8950
If you have been following my Instagram, you might have seen these Hello Kitty donuts I made last year. I am finally going to update the recipe for these in today's post, sorry for the long wait.

IMG_8957
These donuts are baked, so the texture would be similar to cakes instead.

IMG_8958
I happened to have matchy Hello Kitty nails that day. Sadly, my pretty nails can never last past a few days, due to all the housework I do. :(

IMG_1070
I also went on to make Hello Kitty friends, Keroppi, Pompompurin and my melody on another day.

IMG_1066
These batch was rather messy though, as I had some problem with the chocolate consistency.

IMG_1576
I thought I'll share this Hello Kitty milkshake in this post as well, since there is a donut on it. I made this to share with my boys after their exams. I've seen lots of version of this ultimate milkshake and thought I'll try to recreate it.

There's strawberries blended with vanilla ice-cream and milk in the glass. I frosted part of the glass with white chocolate and sprinklers. For the layers on top, I added donut, Kit Kat, Pocky, Hello Kitty and bow chocolates. This was quite fun to make and fun to share, definitely would be too much for one person to finish this.

I used the Morinaga pancake mix for this recipe. If you can't get hold of them, you can use this old recipe of mine over here instead.

HELLO KITTY DONUT RECIPE

Ingredients:
150g Monrinaga pancake mix
100ml soya milk/milk
1 egg
3 tbsp honey
10g cold pressed coconut oil/vegetable oil/melted butter
Almonds
White chocolate
Pink chocolate/Wilton pink icing colouring
Chocolate
Yellow Chocolate/Wilton yellow icing colouring

Method:
  1. Put pancake mix, soya milk, egg, honey and coconut oil in a bowl and mix until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. IMG_9042
  3. Lightly grease donut pan with vegetable oil. Spoon mixture into donut mould till around 80% full. Bake in preheated oven at 180C for 15 minutes.
  4. IMG_7756
  5. Remove from mould and leave it to cool down fully.
  6. IMG_9411
  7. Using a knife, make slits on top of the donut, just enough for you to insert the almonds for the ears.
  8. IMG_9449
  9. Melt white chocolate either over a hot water bath or in a microwave.
  10. IMG_9413
  11. Dip the almonds in white chocolate before placing them back in the slits. Dip the donut in white chocolate. If you find your almonds dropping when you turn over the donut to dip it in the chocolate, you can scoop the chocolate over the donut to coat it instead.
  12. IMG_1042
  13. Draw on Hello Kitty's nose using yellow chocolate. If you can't get hold of this, add on a yellow icing colouring to white chocolate to colour it yellow. Draw on the rest of the features using chocolate.
  14. IMG_1043
  15. You will need a ribbon mould to make Hello Kitty mould. Alternatively, you can also use two heart shaped sprinklers to form the bow. Melt pink chocolate, pour into the mould and leave it to set in the fridge before removing. If you can't get hold of pink chocolate, add on a pink icing colouring to white chocolate to colour it pink.

Pooh bear & Friends Donuts

It has been a long time since I last shared about donuts on my blog. I started experimenting with various designs last school holidays. The ones I'm sharing today belongs to one of my earlier batch. I recently made an updated glazed version of this, I like the look of that one better but that recipe will be shared another time instead.

IMG_7835
Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore donuts, which one do you like? These donuts are baked, not fried, so the texture is similar to cakes. You would need a donut mould for this recipe, I'm using a silicon one but the metal ones are fine too.

IMG_7857
I used Morinaga pancake mix to make this, but if you can't get hold of it, you should be able to substitute with other pancake mix.

IMG_7836
I'm only sharing the recipe on how to make Pooh, since he's the easiest. However, you can use the same basic recipe to make the Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet.

I used soya milk and cold pressed coconut oil for this recipe and the donuts turned out really fragrant, I recommend these two combi, but I've also provided alternatives you can use in the recipe.

  5. Lightly grease donut pan with vegetable oil. Spoon mixture into donut mould till around 80% full. Bake in preheated oven at 180C for 15 minutes.
  6. IMG_7756
  7. Use pipping bag (B) to draw out circles on a tray lined with baking paper. Bake in preheated oven at 180C for 2 minutes. This will be for Pooh's ears.
  8. IMG_7823
  9. Using pipping bag (A), draw out Pooh's features on the baked donut, return the donut to the oven and bake for 1 minute. Stick on Pooh's ears using melted chocolate.

  11. The same basic dough can be used to make Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger.

Keroppi Matcha Donuts

I've been busy baking the past two days for LT's birthday, according to what he requested. I did not plan well this year, ended up multi-tasking too much, and it was a mad rush to make his birthday food art. Hiaz, was rather unhappy with how it turned out, wished I had allocated more time to do it nicely. I'll share more next week when I update the post about his birthday.

IMG_3788
I made a combination of baked matcha donuts and plain ones sometime back. I decorated one as Keroppi, it was a last minute idea and I did not have any suitable ingredients at home. I ended up using cheese, nori and ham but I would suggest using bananas, strawberries and chocolate instead, as they go better with these donuts.

IMG_3787
Please click HERE for the donut recipe, I divided the batter in half and added in 2 teaspoon of matcha powder to one. The picture of the moulds I used can be found in this post HERE.

IMG_3785
I should not have stacked them up like this, my boys said I made snake donuts, not Keroppi. :P

IMG_3791
Here's a shot of the rest of the donuts in the other box. :) My boys had some for after dinner desserts and I kept the rest for them to bring to school for recess the following day. :)

Baked Donuts

I made some baked donuts for the boys' teatime on Monday, recipe at the bottom of this post. :)

IMG_0318
Baked versions are different from the fried ones, but healthier and taste great too. :)

IMG_0322
For me. :P

IMG_0331
This is the mould I'm using, I bought them at Tokyu Hands during my last Japan trip.

IMG_0326
Random shots of my dinner I took this week. This was for Monday, baked minced beef with salad and baguette.

IMG_0328
For Tuesday, fried tofu puffs stuffed with meat and fish paste.

IMG_0330
And for today, somen dipped in miso and yakitori.

IMG_0333
Oh, I've to share this. Found these sandwich boxes at the Sanrio Fair at Harbourfront centre yesterday. They are only $5 each. The fair is still on, go grab! Not sure when's the last day though. :)

BAKED DONUTS

Ingredients:
220g cake flour, sifted
170g granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Method:
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. Prep your donut pan with butter.
  3. In a bowl, combine the melted butter, buttermilk and beaten eggs. Set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the cake flour, vanilla sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Pour in the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the wells of you pan (roughly 2/3rds full). An easier/cleaner option is to pour the batter into a ziplock bag and snip the corner or use a piping bag and pipe the batter into the pan.
  6. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until the tops of the donuts spring back when lightly touched. Do not over bake.

Cinnamoroll and Donuts Bento

Cinnamoroll seems pretty easy to make, it's my second time making her for bento. But somehow I just can't get the proportion right, and she ends up looking funny. Made a Sandwich for IT's snack, dressed as a donut. It's the same as their lunch bento on Tuesday.
