Harry Potter & Hermione Granger

The characters for today bentos are from the immensely popular book, Harry Potter. I'm sure this book needs no introduction. Harry Potter has been on my to-do list for extremely long, the reason why I did not make him earlier was because my boys have neither read the books, nor watched the movies before this year. My hubby refused to let me get them the books for religious reasons. But this year, I just went ahead and get them the book as I'm hoping to bring them somewhere related to the book this year end holiday.

Here's the Harry Potter I made, his face was made from rice, coloured with some ketchup. His hair was made from charcoal noodles, which I made using my Philips noodle maker. No, you can't taste the charcoal at all, I tossed the noodles in sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce and it tasted just like the usual noodles.

IT has finished the whole Harry Potter series countless times, but he still enjoys reading it over and over again. LT only started reading recently, but he's very familiar with the characters and spells, because IT has been telling him all about them.

The side dishes were stir-fried salmon with ginger and spring onions and broccoli stir-fried with mushrooms.

I also made Hermione Granger, on a different day. Her hair was instant noodles which I tossed with sesame oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce and dark soy sauce, so it looks a darker shade. The side dishes were drumsticks braised in Chu Hou paste and egg roll with carrot and spring onions.

I've actually not read the Harry Potter before, though I've been wanting to, just that I've yet to find time to do so. I've also not finished the movie series either, I think I only watched the first two, then IT was born, and I was preoccupied with him, then few years later with them both, and I did not bother to watch the subsequent film series.

Hermione Granger was made based on input given by my boys. After the Harry Potter food art, they told me to make a cat and Hermione holding a book, lol.
