Singapore National Day Bento

I've been wondering when I started this blog just a couple of weeks ago. I'm bad with dates, and I forgot to note it down then. I can't check my first post, because I backdated quite a number of posts. I can't check the date I joined blogger either because I started blogging in 2005 under a private blog. Just when I thought I won't ever find out, I received a notification from Flickr that my Pro account is almost due to expire on 18 of August. That means I probably started this blog around this time a year ago. :)

An early National Day bento, because LT is skipping School tomorrow. And IT have to report very early in the morning for his Sports Day tomorrow. And there will be no School for the rest of the week, Yay! I have a Fun Bites sponsored review and giveaway coming up soon, either this Friday or next week, so remember to check back. :)

Singapore flag and a cuter version of merlion, it's a graphic I saw online. Merlion is made out of cheese and ham.

Red portion of rice is coloured with beetroot powder. Other food are yakitori, broccoli and strawberries.

Red or rather pink portion is cheese coloured with beetroot colouring. I was quite tempted to use artificial colouring here, but in the end, I still did not. I've been making a conscious effort to stay away from adding artificial colourings to their bentos if possible. Same for processed food like sausage and ham, I've stopped using those as fillers, only for decor.

Their usual sandwich for School, with yakitori and grapes.

Korean pancakes again, think I just had them last week, lol.

  1. yes, your merlion really look cute. i esp like their belly bottons, so sexy!

i m also trying to stay away from ham, sausages and kani sticks though they are really a big help in making charaben.

congrats on your 300th post! i wonder how many more years to go for me to make it to even my 200th posts.

    1. Lol, tks, was googling for cute merlion n found this one. Yes, when I first started I used sausages n ham as fillers to fill in the gap almost everyday, n I used a lot of artificial colorings then too. Now trying to avoid as much as possible. Tks, tks, I'm a bento addict, hands itchy if I don't do for too long.

  2. This is too cute!! Can I copy your idea? I don't have imitate crab meat so was thinking how to make SG flag for bento.

For the cheese, you mixed beetroot powder with water and "paint"?

    1. Of course, Jasmine. :) I'm using beetroot colouring to colour the cheese, it's from chocolate craft studio, I got the powder ones, mix with water, paint, and wipe off excess. The shipping is ex though.
