Astronaut and Rocket Bento

I was sorting through some photos of the boys taken at Baby Boss Taiwan, and I thought of making some bentos related to the different occupations they did there. So I'm starting off with a rocket bento. :)


Bento for IT, in the box are multi grained rice, chicken balls, broccoli, golden kiwis and strawberries.


Bento for LT, same food as above.


Bento for IT's recess, in the box are nutella bread, chicken ball and strawberries.


Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above, except he's having strawberry jam sandwich. They keep asking for the same fillings for their sandwiches, I don't understand why they don't get sick of it. -_-


Decor's done with cheese and ham.

And back to my lunch, in the box are salad in Japanese soya sauce dressing and spam/egg sandwiches.

It's a holiday tomorrow, so I will not be making any bentos. I'll be back again on Wednesday. :)

Boys' Festival Bento

I woke up very early today, so early that I decided to go back to sleep and ended up waking too late. -_- So, it's another mad rush, and  I think this is my 'best' record to date, after I'm done with the bentos, I'm only left with 10 minutes to get ready and send LT to School. Oh well, looks like there will always be such days for me. :P

The bentos today were related to the Japanese Boys' Festival. It's something I always wanted to make, and I'm glad I finally did it. Not my original idea, there were so many such bentos around on Japanese site, so it was easy to just copy the idea from here and there. :P


Bento for IT, in the box are onigiri, fried dumplings, pork rolls, sausage, strawberries and blueberries.


Bento for LT, same food as above.


Bento for IT's recess, in the box are nutella bread, sausage, fried dumpling and grapes. Argh, I know I added on too much gel for the boys' cheeks, but I had no time to rectify. :P


Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above.


The imprints on the fish were not very clear, these were not my usual sausages. I bought another brand to try but the imprints do not show up well.


Lucheon meat/asparagus fried rice and fried dumplings for me. :)


I bought these for the boys last week. I had intended to use them as props for my photo today, but I forgot to bring them in from my patio in my rush this morning. Hiaz. :( I wonder whether they will last till next year, lol. :P

I did a tutorial on how to fold the hats, using origami paper. The hats in my bentos were folded using wax paper. :)

Start off with a square paper, coloured side down.


Fold it in half to form a triangle. Next, fold the 2 sides to meet the white line in the center.


Fold right side.


Fold left side. Next, fold the top flaps in half, at the white line.


Fold left flap down.


Fold right flap down. Now, turn bottom side to the top.


Fold the top flap at the white line. Fold left side first.


Fold right side now.


Fold the first half of the bottom flap about 3/4 of the way.


Then make another fold. Tuck the other flap inside the hat.


Ta-dah, it's done. I hope I did not confuse you, not too good with explaining this.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat Bento

Lol, I do not know what to call the bento today, it's a bento inspired by the Children's song "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". I am sure most people must have sang this song before. However, the inspiration for the bento was not from the version of this song that I grow up with. :P It comes from an alternate verse, that I learnt with IT, when he was a toddler, in his playgroup class. The alternate verse goes like this:

Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream,
If you see a  crocodile,
Don't forget to scream.

I skipped LT's box for School for today. :P


Hubby's friend who goes regularly for off shore fishing gave us a few big fish he caught. Hubby told me to cook fish head curry with the fish head last night. I don't like fish, but I love the gravy. So, I kept some to go with my prata today. :P


Round 2 for me, satay from last night. :P


And round 3 is baked portobello. Oops, ate too much today. :P

Curious George Bento

I decorated the burger and wholemeal bread as Curious George for today. It's been a while since I serve them burger and fries for lunch. And they were happy to see fries on the menu. I think they were more excited over the fries than Curious George, lol.

I forgot about the eye sparklers in George's eyes, I cheated in the previous four pictures by adding in digitally. This picture is the actual version, lol. :)


Asari clams and tofu in dashi/miso broth for me. Looks very unappetising in the picture, lol. :)

Power Rangers Samurai Bento

If you remember, I did power rangers samurai bentos early this year. The boys told me they wanted more power rangers in their bentos, not just one. So, I came up with this simplified version for their bentos today. :)

The rice are coloured with natural colourings but I used food markers to colour the cheese. I made a burger for myself with the pork chops and added in some curly crisps. Did not bother to take a photo of it today. :P

Cube Hello Kitty and Melody Bento

I've been wanting to make little rice cubes and bread again, so I can make use of this mould. I happened to see a Sanrio fabric, with all the characters as little cubes. So. I'm stealing that idea for my bento today. :)


Bento for IT, in the box are beet coloured rice (I added too much water, and the rice was too soft.), chicken balls yakitori, pork rolls, golden kiwis and grapes. :)


Bento for LT, same food as above. Oops, Kitty's nose is not at the right place. -_-
